The first time I have been on my computer today was about an hour or so ago. Toby and I were talking last night about how we spend our time. I had been praying about it and I mentally started adding up what I spend most of my waking hours doing.
I found out that I really like my computer. A lot.
Then on a whim I noted (just for one day) how much Toby spent on his computer. He likes his computer a lot too.
I immediately thought, "Geez!! It isn't bad! I need to check my email! I need to monitor our bank accounts! I need to know what is going on outside my house!" ...but I also love to facebook, play games, and read nonsense I get pulled into while reading the news. You Tube can suck me away endlessly.
Okay. So I still don't think any of them are necessarily bad. BUT! One of my discoveries was that I spend several HOURS collectively on my computer in one day. Granted, it's 15 minutes here, 10 minutes there, 30 minutes while kids are occupied, etc. Yikes. I knew I squeezed a good amount in every day, but I didn't know it was that much!
So, Toby and I agreed that we would not go on the computer during the day unless it was a pressing issue or necessity. We agreed that we would do our minimal computer stuff that we enjoy after the kids were in bed. It was hard. I had no idea how much I am drawn to it.
This is crazy. Here I am, at the end of my day, and I am remembering all I accomplished. Ready!!!?? I kept my house tidy, watched Natasha, took a short nap, folded laundry, played Skip Bo, Uno and Chutes and Ladders with one or both of my kids, cleaned out all of Rianna's drawers and replaced the winter clothes with the spring / summer ones, ...the list seems endless to me! I also just hung out with my family. Wow. I doubt it will be like this everyday I decide not to use my computer until after dark, but it sure was an encouraging start.
Toby and I decided to just get our news off of his XM during the day. We will just keep it on throughout the day to make sure we know what's going on in the world.
Day one accomplised. Cool. :)
