The first time I have been on my computer today was about an hour or so ago. Toby and I were talking last night about how we spend our time. I had been praying about it and I mentally started adding up what I spend most of my waking hours doing.
I found out that I really like my computer. A lot.
Then on a whim I noted (just for one day) how much Toby spent on his computer. He likes his computer a lot too.
I immediately thought, "Geez!! It isn't bad! I need to check my email! I need to monitor our bank accounts! I need to know what is going on outside my house!" ...but I also love to facebook, play games, and read nonsense I get pulled into while reading the news. You Tube can suck me away endlessly.
Okay. So I still don't think any of them are necessarily bad. BUT! One of my discoveries was that I spend several HOURS collectively on my computer in one day. Granted, it's 15 minutes here, 10 minutes there, 30 minutes while kids are occupied, etc. Yikes. I knew I squeezed a good amount in every day, but I didn't know it was that much!
So, Toby and I agreed that we would not go on the computer during the day unless it was a pressing issue or necessity. We agreed that we would do our minimal computer stuff that we enjoy after the kids were in bed. It was hard. I had no idea how much I am drawn to it.
This is crazy. Here I am, at the end of my day, and I am remembering all I accomplished. Ready!!!?? I kept my house tidy, watched Natasha, took a short nap, folded laundry, played Skip Bo, Uno and Chutes and Ladders with one or both of my kids, cleaned out all of Rianna's drawers and replaced the winter clothes with the spring / summer ones, ...the list seems endless to me! I also just hung out with my family. Wow. I doubt it will be like this everyday I decide not to use my computer until after dark, but it sure was an encouraging start.
Toby and I decided to just get our news off of his XM during the day. We will just keep it on throughout the day to make sure we know what's going on in the world.
Day one accomplised. Cool. :)

A good visit with the Johnsons
We have some friends who are missionaries from Beijing. They have been there for the past three years and the year before that, they lived in Nebraska. We love and miss them immensely. They came back to visit and we spent the morning with them at Watson Park. It was good to see and hang out with them. Emmanual is a year younger than Jacob and Jacob adores that little boy. Shenae and Rianna don't remember each other, but played and played! We enjoyed seeing Mohamed and the Joneses too!! I took several pictures. They will be leaving soon as Bert has lots of churches to visit here in the states before they return to China. Be safe dear Friends. We will continue to pray for you and your wonderful ministry.

Awana
Yay! Last night was the final night of AWANA. Toby had the night off because his schedule was altered so he could do an "over the roads" shift this morning. It was so awesome having him there for the award ceremony! Yay! This was Jacob's last night of Sparks and he will be in TnT next year. He worked very hard these past three years. He finished all three of his books and all three of his workbooks. He received his Sparky Award and was BEAMING when they gave it to him. There were only two children who received it.
Way to go Son. We are very proud of you!!! I will upload pics later this afternoon...

Familial Hilarity
So, as you know I often post things to facebook that my kiddos say. They crack me up regularly. I have chosen to write them down so I won't forget the awesomeness of their hilarity! I am going to try to be good about posting them here too so they are all in one place.
Jacob: "Mom, will you please Google, 'How to become a Jedi Master.' Go ahead. I'll wait."

Bouncing Baby Boy
Holy moly. My kid is DEFINITELY on Prednisone. Did you ever play pinball? I thought of "pong" too... but that wasn't quite fast enough for a good description of what Jacob is doing today. About an hour after I gave him his steroid he started running back and forth, touching every wall that barricaded him from continuing down the block. This included the basement, the main floor, and the upstairs. All the while he is trying to hear me as we started school. I can't believe we actually finished school today!! He finally calmed down a bit but was still pretty antsy.
In other news, we are excited! Toby has been in CA with our friend Eric since Sunday, and will be coming home in a little over an hour. He went there to help my momma get Grandpa's house ready to sell. I think he was a little frustrated as he did not get as much as he wanted done. I hope it blessed her though.
Tootle loo for now...I'm off to try to catch a cute bouncin' kiddo!

Just a spoonful of...honey?
So, Jacob had ear tubes put in and his adenoids removed at the end of March. Things were gong very well after that, actually. He stopped yelling all the time (he couldn't here) and that was glorious. He was a champ and bounced right back. He still needed to take all his allergy meds unfortunately, but all in all, we were happy with the decision to have him go through with the surgery.
A couple of days ago, he started coughing. This is normal. He has horrible allergies. No biggie. I started to have to give him benadyrl at night because he had the post nasal drip thing going on. Then last night, on the way home from Riverfest, he YELPED in the back seat. He cupped his ear and told me his left ear really hurt. Well, after some more benadryl (still coughing) and some Advil, I sent him to bed. Then I called Mom Atencio (she's a nurse). She thought the same thing I did...something is wrong with the ear tubes. I checked on him once again. He had a fever. Ugh.
So, I took the poor little dude into the doctors office today to check on his ear tubes.
Good grief.
His ear tubes are fine. My poor baby has fungus growing in his ears. Geez!!! She said there was fungus growing in both ears, he's wheezing, and has a low grade fever. POOR KID! The doc thinks that it has everything to do with allergies. So, he's on an inhaler, a steroid, ear drops (4x a day!!), and a Z-pack. He missed AWANA tonight and TKD earlier. He was so bummed. Hopefully he will start feeling better soon.
Ha! We were listening to the radio on the way back from the doctors and the DJ mentioned eating a teaspoon of local honey (not store bought from somewhere else) helps allergies. It has all the local pollen in it and it makes you immune. Heck. I am willing to give it a shot!
Darn. I get to eat honey eveyday. Darn.

Um. Too long.
Wow. I didn't realize it had been that long since I posted. Yikes!
I have been collecting cute things that my kiddos say and I often post them on facebook. Here are some of my favs:
(J=Jacob, R=Rianna, S=Sonya)
--------------------------------------------------------
• One of the joys of parenthood: finding string cheese in your pencil drawer. Ew. (March 27, 2009 at 6:14pm)
• Sonya and Toby just got WHIPPED playing Monopoly with our 7 year old. For crying out loud!! It was his first time playing too! (April 17, 2009 at 10:32pm)
• In the backseat of the car: Jacob: "I want to invent something!" Sonya: "Cool! What?" J: "I'll call it 'The box of muscles!'" S: "Tell me more!" J: "It'll be a box full of muscles you can take out and put on whenever you need to pick something up that is too heavy’(May 20, 2009)
• Jacob noticed a car accident on the way home tonight. "Mom? Can we pray for them?" Sonya: "Absolutely!" After I prayed a bit, he did too. Then he ended with this: "...and please help them not to have to get a new car. ...but if they have to, please give them a sparkly one.” (May 31, 2009 at 11:50pm)
• Rianna: When I grow up, I can be Tinker Bell with Tinker Bell wings... and SPARKLES. **giggle...GRIN**
• I just finished washing the car. ...and my kids in the front yard! ;) They started playing with bubbles, spilled it all over the porch. So, I had to wash the porch off of course. They just got in the way! :) He he! (August 28, 2009 at 6:23pm)
• Sonya just came home. As we pulled into driveway, my 3 year old began to sob uncontrollably. She walked into the house, crumbled onto the floor...face down, and cried. Screamed. ...and people wonder why we don't skip naps too often. Oy vey! : ) (November 18, 2009 at 9:49pm)
• Grimm Fairy Tales vs. DC Comics. Episode 1. Jacob (wearing a cape and Batman mask): "Rianna, are you ready to play Batman and Princess?" Rianna: "No, I want to be Green Lantern." (She is sporting a plastic tiara with clip on gaudy dangly earrings).
• You know it's bad when your son comes over to you an hour and a half after dinner and says to you, "Mom, what's for dinner?" GOOD GRIEF! He never stops eating!! I have a hobbit! I keep checking his feet for tufts of hair! November 20, 2009 at 8:20pm)
• So I said to Jacob earlier today..."Jacob, do you know where Daddy is? I can't find him." Jacob answers (with a straight face, I might add), "Mom, he must have taken his invisible pill. You can't see him." (November 27, 2009 at 7:30pm)
• Jacob: "Mom, what do they all Captain America (the superhero) in China? Captain China?" (November 28, 2009 at 8:21pm)
• Jacob was having a rough morning, which in turn was making mine rough. Out of the blue he looked at me and said, "Mom, I am having a bad morning. I really need a song in my heart. Can you help me?" We learned what Eph. 5:19 meant last week."Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make ...music in your heart to the Lord," I needed to take his advice too; thanks son. We're singing now. (December 1, 2009 at 11:34am)
• This afternoon Jake says (showing me his K'Nex creation), "Mom, this is a protector gun. It works like this..." (he shows me his fancy moves) "It also has a safety lock" (a clip on the end of the 'gun' so the little blue rings on it won't fly off when in action). Then he says nothing for a moment. ... then ... "It's... also a musical instrument." He then shakes the 'gun' (along with his booty). (December 5, 2009 at 10:55pm)
• Rianna: "Mommy!!!! God made rain and snow and CHEESE!" (December 8, 2009 at 12:37pm)
• Rianna: "Mommy, I hate Satan. He's the bad guy."
• Everyone finished dinner except for my Anna Boo, so I got up to put some dishes in the sink. When I came back to the table I looked in the butter dish and found two stripes in the butter where two tiny fingers were drawing things. Hmmm. I wonder who that was. (December 16, 2009 at 6:00pm)
• Jacob started a two sided puzzle. He told Rianna to twirl like a princess & to dance; he was going to use her 'magic' wand & turn the puzzle into a different one. She twirled & danced as a princess should. Then he looked at me, said, "Shhh" & flipped the puzzle over. He used the 'magic' wand & said, "Keep dancing or it won't work!" When she looked at it, it was magically different! He's a great brother! (December 25, 2009 at 7:52pm)
• Rianna: Mommy, God makes me feel princessy. (December 26, 2009)
• Jacob was being too quiet. I sneaked down the hall to my bedroom where I knew he was hiding. A bunch of small furniture things were in the hall outside my bedroom door. This made me very curious so I went to the bedroom door and peaked in the room to find out when my boy was doing. He was trying to surprise me with a vacuumed room! :) (December 30, 2009)
• Jacob is working on adding things to his Invention Folder. 'Mom, I’m making a ticket for people to buy; it will take them to where no man has gone before.'
• Sonya bought some shoes today for herself. Jacob: 'Are you going to make those into dance shoes too?' Me: 'Geez am I that predictable?' (February 11 at 6:38pm )
• Jacob said something like this to me earlier, 'If I buy my future wife a plastic spider ring for her wedding ring, will she yell at me?' (February 26 at 6:07pm)
• Jacob: Is anyone else here? Me: Ain't nobody here but us chickens...ain't nobody here at all... (insert musical notes here) Jacob: I'M NOT A CHICKEN! (March 17 at 8:07pm)
• Jacob got a hold of a decent size box & cut a circle in the center of it. He then took the part he cut out & made a "remote." He handed it to me & told me this was my remote control for cleaning. He put his box on (head through the hole) & smiled at me. I pushed "CU" (clean up) & he got to work! There's a "WD" button (wash & dry) & last but not least, a "Do anything button!" Wahoo! (March 20 at 8:44pm)
• (me speaking to Rianna). S: "Are you a smart cookie, Rianna?" R: "Well, yes. I am...and a good cookie." (March 29, 2010)
• Waiting. Waiting. Jacob is having ear tubes put in & his adenoids removed right now. Just waiting. Sigh. (March 31 at 9:13am)
• At Dillons (our local supermarket): J: (to the gal bagging our groceries) "Can my sister and I please have a sticker?" Girl: "Sure!" She hands them two round Dillons stickers, one for each kiddo. Rianna immediately peals her sticker off and slaps it on top of her eye and screams, "ARGH!! I'm a pirate!" (April 2, 2010)
• Sonya had a great time dancing tonight (duh!). My kiddos came with me and had their "cute dials" turned WAY up! :) (April 11, 2010)
• R: “I had a dream last night.” S: “What was it about?” R: “Ugliwogs in a cave. That’s where they live.” S: “Um. Honey, what’s an ugliwog?” R: (Insert ‘rolling eyes’ that say, 'Don’t you know anything, Mommy?') “A tickler! He takes his toes off and tickles you! I don’t like him. ...but he’s funny.” S: “Um. Wow.” (April 14, 2010)
• Sonya made snickerdoodles with my Anna-Boo. She was covered in cinnamon! My kitchen and house are in shambles but WOW does it smell AWESOME in here! :) (April 16, 2010)
• (On our way to the YMCA) J: (from the back seat) 'I just saw a tater tot.' R&S: (??????) S: Describe the tater tot you saw, Honey. (J gives a brief description) S: (laughing hard): 'Jacob, you mean teeter totter! NOT tater tot!' R: 'Come sit on the tater-totter!' (laughing) (Geez, I almost had to pull over we were ...all laughing so hard...) (April 22, 2010)
• My litlle Anna Boo is brushing my hair and attempting to put a barrette in my giant mane. Good luck with that, Baby. I tell you...my hair sure looks 'purty' right now. ;) (April 23, 2010)
• J: "Mom, I need to watch Star Wars a bunch a bunch a bunch of times so I can learn how to become a Jedi. Once I learn, I will train my family. Then I will make a real light saber and become rich. ...and I can meet Yoda." (April 28, 2010)
• Thought I'd put a movie on for my kiddos so i could get some cleaning projects done this evening. I popped in Wall-E and started to walk away, then thought, "I'll just watch the beginning!" 1.5 hours later I was under a blanket, cuddling with my kids and giggling. Oh well, the house is still a mess, but my heart is full! (May 8, 2010)
• (At Jacob's piano recital): Teacher, to J: 'You did a great job, Jacob! ...and you didn't even need your music!' J: 'Ya. Thanks. Pretty impressive for someone my age, huh?' Teacher: 'Oh yes!!' (giggling) 'Very impressive!' S: (Hangs head in hands and tries to crawl under a bench...hoping my kid doesn't see me laugh. O. My. Stars.) (May 10, 2010)
